The Dream

Written by Kirk Hawley

Well I dreamed that I was drowning on a dark and story night
And only wind and water could I see
And from the deep beneath me a boat rose from the water
Bow first like it was eager to meet me

And I leapt out of the water and I fell into the bottom
And the inside was as dry as any bone
and I took hold of the oars and I set em in the oarlocks
And I thought I might still make it to my home

And though the blood dripped from my hands into the boat
I swore I'd row as long as I could keep afloat

And I rowed until my back broke, and I rowed till I was blind
And I cried and I cursed and groaned and raved
And the bow ground on the beach, and my oars fell in the water
And I crept out of the boat and I was saved.

And I woke up from my dream and rubbed my eyes.
And I got up from my bed and walked outside.

And I knelt there in the darkness and I knew that I was hurt
And broke in ways I could not understand
And I fell down on my face and my fingers gripped the dirt
And I layed there and I had no strength to stand

And the eastern sky began to fill with light
And orange and red and gold replaced the night

And the sun came over the mountain and the sight filled me with wonder
So big and bright I had to look away
And so I saw my valley, and I saw myself there in it
And I found the strength to live another day

Now the days keep rolling by me and I watch em come and go
And every one's a trial of toil and strife
And I toil my way right through em and I'm glad for every one
That's how I show I'm grateful for my life
That's how I show Im grateful for my life.
